Macintosh Computers

I Think, Therefore iMac.

If you are between the ages of 55 and 85 chances are you grew up and spent a good part of your life never knowing what a computer was. The same, of course, is not true for our children and grand-children. We may not be able to remember what it was like when there wasn't any TV -- they don't remember life without computers.

I believe strongly in the Apple operating system and its gift of a platform that anyone can use.To support that belief I write a column for an outstanding internet magazine called The Mac Observer. My column is written for those of us who want to enjoy and benefit from our computers without knowing how they work. I cover issues that are of interest to beginners and intermediate senior users, including basic steps cut and paste steps, scam warnings, and instructions on making your own web page just like this one. If this description fits you or someone you know, I hope you will visit my column -- Computing With Bificoals. Why A Mac?Even a novice can hook up a Mac right out of the box.I don't have to worry about a virus attacking my computer. (As things currently stand, the Macintosh operating system isgenerally not susceptible to virus attacks.Everything is easy to do. I can do in one step on a Mac what it takes 3 steps to do on any other PC.I can close a stalled or frozen application without shutting down the whole machine.I can make a photo album, create my own music, or make a movie, all without any special technical skills."Mac people" are always willing to help each other solve problems without their egos getting in the way. Many towns and cities have Macintosh User Groups. A list of active groups is available here. The new Intel suported Macs allow users to run Windows applications as easily as they do Mac applications.Macs retain their resale value.Beginner, Novice, Expert?

I started using a computer 15 years ago, but it was not by choice. I did not understand how they worked or how to use them efficiently. I considered them to be expensive typewriters that I used to produce typed documents. It was only after I discovered the Apple Macintosh that I really began to enjoy and experiment with computers. Over those years I have expanded my skills and three years ago put some of that knowledge to use by creating a manual for beginners who have some experience and want to expand their skills.  The third revision of this manual has just been published and it can be purchased one of three ways: a print version, a CD version or a download version.  The manual is available for purchase below.
